Thanks to Eliot for providing an enlightening link on the Karl Rove case. I think it's become pretty obvious right now that Bush will never fire Rove. If you listen to his comments, he says that he stands by his earlier comments and says he will fire anyone who DID ANYTHING ILLEGAL. And they're saying that "Rove didn't know" she was covert ops. Um, yeah. I believe that. And therefore since he didn't know she was covert, he couldn't have been purposely damaging US security interests, and therefore it was not illegal. Huh? Such an ethical government we have. Ahhhh...
So what does everyone think about the new bombing, since no one had any thoughts on the previous ones? London seems to be taking these pretty well in stride, bully for them. (I've only ever heard that phrase sarcastically. Can it be non-sarcastic too?) Anyway, I think it's pretty cool for them that they're not all freaking out. That's good. Easier to spread fear when there's pandemonium etc. Kinda surprised another happened in london though as opposed to somewhere else. But also interesting that they were able to. Maybe that's a problem with taking these in stride, because then they're ALSO not panicking and paying closer attention to people. I really don't know today's scenario though so I couldn't say what happened, obviously.
OK, so some scary news hitting closer to home: we got a flyer a couple of days ago saying that two Level 3 (the highest level, most likely to re-offend) sex offenders were moving into the neighborhood. That in itself freaked me out. There is a community meeting tonight, but we can't make it. So I went online to the Mpls sex crimes website to look up all the info about these guys.
The neighborhood as they define it for notice purposes is actually a rather large area. So I kinda assumed that they wouldn't be near us. And I looked up, in addition to them, all the people in our zip code. Since the post office is 3 blocks away from us, I assume we are pretty close to the center of the zip code. And most of the guys on this database live past lake street, i think (for those of you who that has any relevance for). There seems to be a whole bunch of them on one particular block, so maybe they have a party house together. But what the alarming thing is, is that one of the new guys - one who targets women walking alone, then drags them away to somewhere else and assaults them -- is moving ONTO MY BLOCK!!!! This is way scary. I'm glad it's summer and daylight lasts longer because already I don't like to walk in the dark (I don't do it, actually, ever, I think) alone, but if it were winter that would be unavoidable.
Garrr. Even though this makes it scarier to me, I was glad to see that this guy doesn't target kids. Because millions of little, often unattended, kids hang out right across the street at the park and in the wading pool. So that makes it a lot better even if it makes it more dangerous for me.
