I last posted on December 30, 2005. That night I went over to my little sister's and had a sleepover with her. It was hilarious. She wasn't home when I got there, but came back soon after. First we made pizza for dinner. Then she obsessed about setting up the basement (she put out her sleeping bag and pillow; made the spare bed, and smoothed out the "fluton" for me. she completed it with teddy bears for all.)
After that we played some video games; then I broke out the "kids' wine" and we read Narnia. After that we played Guess Who, and then we went downstairs to watch the great, super-awesome movie I had picked out for her, "Herbie," with Lindsey Lohan (lindsay? i don't know.)
At this point I pulled out the big guns: A 2-liter of strawberry soda and a bucket full of candy I had gotten in the bulk aisle at the supermarket. She went nuts on that stuff. At one point during the movie she took out this little changing-color night-light and insisted on turning out the lights so we could dance around in the dark with it.
After the movie we played around some more, and she accused me of being "drunk on sugar." She then says, with a glazed, dreamy look on her face, "Ohhhhh...it's like...seeing your life on a big screen...and you're watching it..." (Um, did I take that sugar thing too far?)
She was ecstatic that she was allowed to stay up as late as we did; at one point we heard 2 of my little brothers getting home from a movie and she said, "oh! mary! is it the middle of the night?" (it was around 12:30) I said, "yes, baby, it's in the middle of the night." "Ohhhh!! We're UP and it's the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT!!!! COOL!!!!"
Then she wanted to watch "one of those doctor shows", so we turned on the Discovery Health Channel and watched "Trauma in the ER," which was coincidentally that night set in the HCMC. We watched them take bullets out of people, fun. But then in the middle of all that (around 1:15) she turns to me and says, "Mary? Are you sure we can do this?" I said, "yeah, sure! of course we can! we can do whatever you want! If you want to go to bed we can, but if you want to stay up we can too!" She looks at me and repeats, "Mary? are you SURE we can do this?" And then her face just cracks and she bursts out crying...so I pick her up and she cries and cries and I suggest going to bed now...but she can't stop crying and starts crying for her mom, so I had to take her upstairs to my parents. She slept very late the next day.
When I got back down the stairs, my brothers were there and instead of being able to get my stuff for bed, I ended up playing a 2-hour Mario Party game with them (they hadn't told me it took that long...)
huh. phew. guess that's not happening again soon.
