So today the Red Cross put out an announcement that they are desperately seeking 40,000 volunteers for help in Hurricane Relief across the country. Ummm...helloooo? Waiting for my phone call back? And I don't really want to call or email again and clog up their lines unnecessarily if they ARE going to call me...but I just looked at the dc-cares site and they said that they were at the armory from the beginning helping with the Red Cross. Frustrating - they are asking for volunteers and I volunteered and now they won't contact me! I am wondering if I should just use the dc-cares volunteer site to go work at the armory. But then I am afraid the RC will contact me and I won't be able to go...although who cares at that point, because I would be doing SOMETHING, right?
Anyway, so I have to think about it. Now I have my schedule for work but I'm sure I could get someone to pick up some shifts for me if need be.
I ran 45 minutes today -- good for me! Don't know the distance though because I took it slowly. But so far 30 minutes (well a little more in my race) is as long as I've gone at a time. But since it wasn't physically hard (just mentally boring), Paul might make me move up next week. I am running my 2nd 5k ever on Saturday morning. Eepers. But it is on the C&O, which is entirely flat and I run on that every day. So it's nothing grueling, just my usual workout basically, and I'm not racing it, I'm just going to take it as a usual run I think. But it would be interesting to find out my rough time on it anyway (not going to be chip timed or anything because it's nothing official, more of a fundraiser fun-run than a race. But you get brunch at the 4 Seasons afterward, mmm!)
K peace out
