On Friday night (my last night in St. Paul), Paul took me out to the Black Sea for dinner. We got the kebab combo (highly recommended by me (and probably Paul), which had SOOO MUCH FOOD, and didn't cost much either! Take two friends and go!!
After that we saw the Village. It freaked me out of course because I can't handle scary movies, but now that I know ...what you know at the end (don't want to spoil it for S & E)... then I would like to watch it again.

Anyways it was a very nice night. The next day we actually spent cleaning Paul's apartment, which was actually a nice thing to do, because it seemed like just a normal day, and made it seem less like I was leaving any second. Then I left.

So now I am pretty much all moved into my room; trying to pick up a fridge tomorrow but need a car to do so. It is 3'x2'x2', which is pretty big I think for a dorm fridge, and I would really like it...but I am nervous because I can't count on getting Sarah or Andy to drive me to get it and I know that if I don't take it right then she's got someone coming right after me to get it.

I was trying to get reading done for my classes now, while I have time, but it's proving difficult as the books I need haven't come into the library yet (as I requested them) or the instructor is vague on what to read (a "selection" from this or that). So i guess I will stare at my ceiling.

I have begun putting maps on my walls, which makes my room feel much better. I like maps, plus they are colorful. I put some on my ceiling. It will be nice when my boxes from home come in a few days, filled with fun things.

I am very frustrated with registration right now. I will explain this and try to make it understandable for people who don't go to Gtown:

I need one more class to fill my schedule up. All the classes that I could possibly find interesting have long waitlists, making it very unlikely that I would win a waitlist-lottery spot. Then out of nowhere (don't know how I missed it before) I spotted a class I would love: BIOTERRORISM! It fits my schedule, AND it has 44 open seats! (out of 100).

But yesterday I tried to register for classes (getting on waitlists and whatnot anyways), and the computer told me that I was not authorized to register. So I emailed the registrar's office and said, hi, can you fix this ASAP, cause the waitlists run on Tuesday night?! They said that yes, I was authorized, but when I tried again it still wouldn't let me.
So, today I went into the registrar's office and made them fix it right there, which took them, oh, half a second. Then I tried to register for this bioterrorism class right there next to them and it said "registration restricted." I talked to one of the registrars and he said, oh, well that's a 500+ class, meaning it's a grad-level class.

I went to talk to my dean about this...well I emailed at least, and he said, well that's ridiculous because 1) it's listed on the undergrad IPOL-Security major approved course list, 2) he knows for a fact (since he's the IPOL dean) that there are tons of undergrads in the course, and 3) the syllabus specifically says that undergrads are welcome.

So, back to the registrar's office. I talked with a different registrar this time, and after hearing all this she went and talked to her supervisor. Ms. Higher-registrar came over and said, undergrads can't take that class. The dean's office decided. I said, uhhh...there are lots of undergrads in that class, and the syllabus says undergrads can, and it's approved for IPOL. She said, yes, that was a mistake they overlooked. I said, um, it's been there for about 8 months, how can they just decide now? She just nodded and said, yes, they called this morning and said. No more undergrads allowed. I responded, well, there's 44 seats left. She said, yes, I will have to lower the limit allowed in that class. I asked if there was any possible way I could register for it. She said no. So I asked, soo...are they planning on kicking out all of the undergrads in that class? She said, oh no, anyone who registered by yesterday can stay in.

Uhhh...so...if they had FIXED MY REGISTRATION PROBLEM WHEN THEY SAID THEY WOULD, I WOULD BE IN THE CLASS! I told her that was ridiculous, and...back to the dean. He was surprised to hear about this, and signed my add-drop form just in case, and told me to go find the professor and get him to sign me in, and maybe I could slip in without the graduate dean's office noticing. So I'm going to do that, as the nicer under-registrar told me that this professor gives permission out like candy.

Well I'm off to see about a book, and read a chapter.
