Anyways, I slept on Sarah's futon last night and got up around 11:30 (we stayed up until almost 3), then after an hour or so we reluctantly began the moving-in process, which involved her driving around a lot to find a parking space, me (and then her) dragging my stuff up into my dorm room on the 6th floor, and then going to pick up my storage stuff on the front lawn. It was made all the more pleasant by the fact that it is a million degrees out and HUMID, a huge change from St. Paul. But it turns out that storage doesn't arrive until tomorrow, so it looks like (since I have no bedding) I will be sleeping at Sarah's again tonight.
After moving in we stole lunch that was supposed to be provided for the freshman, but too bad. Then we went to the library and Sarah checked out a bunch of books for me for my classes (since she gets 2 weeks longer as she is a grad student). She left to go to a birthday dinner, and I went back to my dorm room with the intention of unpacking, but after moving my desk (makes my room look much bigger!) I decided to go buy a calendar from Staples. I walked all the way down there and then realized that their calendars all start in January 2005. Boo. So I bought some stickers to put on mail for Johanna and walked back. (By the way, Johanna called me this afternoon and left a message berating me for not calling her at bedtime last night and telling her a bedtime story about the three goats. I called her back later and she demanded "Did you get my message?!")
I decided to go to the bookstore and check to see what books I needed for my theology class, since the syllabus is not online like the others. Other than a course packet, all are available at the library, so I got 2 more and requested the others. So I have all the books for my African Military class, I will have most of the books for my Islam in the West class, and chances look pretty good that I will have all the books for my Ethics in IR class as well. And all without spending a penny! Yay! I don't know about my fourth class though, since I haven't been able to register for one yet. We'll see.
So I don't really know anyone here and Sarah and Erin are living rather far away, relatively speaking for someone who doesn't have a car and is NOT going to walk through dangerous poorly-lit neighborhoods at night (Sarah said she will drive me home if I go over there late, and I told Erin that if I come to her place I am spending the night. SafeRides doesn't run anywhere NEAR their apartments.)
So it's kinda lonely sitting in my empty dorm room. It would be nicer if I had all my stuff there and could make it more homey. And if I knew people. I have to go get dinner tonight somewhere
Well that's my first day. If anyone wants to call me (yay!), I will give you my new number, but I don't want to randomly post it online cause then creepy people will call.
