I see our dear friend Mr. Kelly was roundly defeated by one Mayor-elect Chris Coleman in the elections yesterday. (69-31 margin) Oh dear. His mandate of power really has been lost, hasn't it? So upsetting. Although I have to say, it is rather disturbing to be happy that someone named "Coleman" has won -- that name really has been tainted for me. But, I guess there're Kennedys all around that are good and bad and I've probably done enough tainting of that name in my day, so we'll leave it. It'll just take some getting used to. Let's remember to use first names, people!
And Rybak. 61-37. That is actually quite surprising. I didn't expect that big of a margin, because there had been so much bad press about him lately. Hmm. But hey, what the hell. Good for him.
Out in my neighborhood, Tim Kaine has defeated Jerry Kilgore for governor of Virginia at 52-46. Really, I think it would have been much closer except for the absolutely despicably ugly smear campaign that Kilgore ran against Kaine. It really did turn people off Kilgore. And Kilgore loses now and goes out and complains about not having "limited government" and about how they will "win the war." Hmmm...a former confederate state talking about states rights, limited central government, and "battles" and "war." Uhhh...might wanna watch your words there, buddy. Unless that is what you meant. But anyway, I'm quite happy with the outcome of the gubernatorial election.
Now, out here they elect the Lt-gov separately, so we wound up with a Republican in that seat, which should make for some interesting politics. But the Dems did win seats in the VA Congress for the first time in 30 years, so that certainly is something. Whoo. The Attorney General, however, is still undecided, with the Dem trailing by about 8,000 votes with 3 precincts yet to report. But they are at 50-50. Also, it was amusing at the Kaine HQ celebrations that about half the people in the crowd were not holding Kaine signs but rather "Warner in 2008!" signs (Warner being the current, Dem, gov of Virginia.)
OK, joke of the post:

An elephant stuck in a revolving door.
