Well I am relieved/annoyed -- one of my best friends from college went and joined the Peace Corps last January and told me she was going to a really remote spot in Paraguay (don't even speak Spanish there) and it would be difficult to contact her, didn't have any contact info, etc, and her school email doesn't work anymore...
So 11 months later I am still wondering how she's doing and wondering if I still have her grandmother's phone number in Chicago so I can make a creepy phone call and try to find something out about her...when to my surprise and astonishment I find that in this remote part of Paraguay she not only has internet, but a BLOG and a GMAIL ADDRESS!! (New blog address in the links section, take note.)
Not that she posts a lot. Which perhaps means she doesn't have it in her actual place, I don't know, haven't read it yet. But I am relieved to find that she is alive and as far as I can tell, relatively well and enjoying herself. I was going to email immediately but I think perhaps I shall write a letter instead because I imagine that those might be nicer to receive.
Got back from Washington last night to see Paul...very happy. But now sitting at my parents' house alone because he's at school and I came to see Johanna -- who wasn't home when I got here and then came home for 1/2 hour and now is at kindergarten, so I am online posting -- should be working on Arabic or something though. Reading. Whatever. I also have to run and then I think I shall call a friend and tell her to come over.
Speaking of running, I found out yesterday that I run more than Paul does. Ha! However, therefore he has suggested that I be the next to run a marathon (again, I say, Ha!) so that I can work on qualifying for Boston like he has (by 15 minutes, take note). I would have to run the marathon in 3'40" or less, meaning I would have to run 8:25 miles. Currently I run roughly 10 min miles on my 5-mile days. (Not sure exactly what the distance is so I can't be more specific.) So...I think I should be able to pull that off in another couple of months, eh?
Ha!
